Dear First Graders of 2020-2021 & Parents,
If you have not done so already, please take a moment to click on the above link about transportation information prior to the first day of school! Also please make sure to review the CDC Tips for parents located on the Johnstown-Monroe School District.
I am so excited to begin our year together. I am looking forward to getting to know each of you and having you in my class. Although this year may look different, I have many fun activities planned.
This will be a year full of learning. Some of you will learn to read for the first time, while others will continue to master your reading abilities. In math, you will master addition and subtraction facts, learn to tell time, skip count, geometry, simple algebra, and more. Journal writing will be a daily activity. It will be fun to compare your journal entries from the beginning of the year to the end of the year. Not only will your entries become more complete, but your handwriting will also improve during the year. I am looking forward to facilitating you in learning the necessary skills to become a successful first-grade student.
We are having a late lunch at 11:45 this year. We will be taking a bathroom and snack break just before 10:00. We are asking that parents send in a healthy pre-packaged snack for their child each day. If you would like to provide a supply of pre-packaged snacks for our class for days when students forget, it would be appreciated. Also, please be sure to send a water bottle with your child. At this time, the drinking fountains are not available for use. Also, we are encouraging students who pack their lunch to do so in a disposable bag so that it can be easily thrown away on the way to recess. It is okay to bring a lunch box, but it will be going to the playground and placed in the area where he or she is playing, and they will need to remember to bring it inside at the end of recess!
As we move forward in this school year, we will be communicating through schoology. I am looking forward to a fantastic school year. I cannot wait to get to know each of you.
