Mr. Derick Busenburg, Principal
JHS has become a home for me, and now that we are in another great year, the sense of community pride and excitement is palpable as the district continues to provide every one of our students with a high-quality education that will allow them to be ready for the future- wherever their unique life paths takes them.
It is a wonderful privilege to serve as the principal of JHS because we are blessed with a community that values and supports our schools in myriad ways and has established a tradition of excellence that spans all areas of a well-rounded educational experience; academics, interscholastic athletics, performing arts, and responsible citizenship. We take great pride in fostering an educational environment that values all of these areas, and one that graduates well-rounded students who have the academic knowledge as well as the experiences and soft skills needed to thrive in today’s world.
One such way that we provide innovative and student-tailored education to our students that I am newly excited for this year is our revitalized JOLT program. With a new Lead Virtual Learning Teacher on board this year, changes to the program have already freshened the face of blended learning and online schooling available to the students of Johnstown High School. It is my hope that we continue to innovate and calculate opportunities to better the program and adapt it to the growing needs and unique interests of our students. To find out more about virtual learning through JHS, visit the JOLT information section.
Another exciting and incredibly important aspect that I am happy to see come to our school is the creation of the Student Support Specialist role. This newly created position provides every student access to the social and emotional supports that are essential to both the health of our school and the health of those we serve so that they can be successful in all other aspects of Johnnie life. I am proud to work along side those who value these important and diverse needs of our students.
