Mr. Derick Busenburg, Principal
As we begin the 2017-18 school year, and I begin my third year as the principal of JHS, the sense of community pride and excitement is palpable as the district nears the completion of a facilities project that includes a new high school and elementary building, and the renovation of our current high school to serve as our new middle school building. Our new and renovated facilities will unquestionably assist us in our never-ending pursuit to provide every one of our students with a high-quality education that will allow them to be ready for the future- wherever their unique life paths takes them.
It is a wonderful privilege to serve as the principal of JHS because we are blessed with a community that values and supports our schools in myriad ways, and has established a tradition of excellence that spans all areas of a well-rounded educational experience; academics, interscholastic athletics, performing arts, and responsible citizenship. We take great pride in fostering an educational environment that values all of these areas, and one that graduates well-rounded students who have the academic knowledge as well as the experiences and soft skills needed to thrive in today’s world.
By all accounts the 2016-17 school year was successful, and we are extremely excited about the future of JHS. We should be moving into our new building mid-year, and graduating the first class from the new building in the spring of 2018. Whether you’re new to Johnstown, or a long-time resident, I would like to encourage you to take some time this school year to watch our students represent our school and community at an event this school year. Whether it’s a Friday evening to watch the football team and The Big Red Band perform, our spring musical, or one of our many other athletic or performing arts events, I’m confident that you’ll be impressed with what you see.
