The JHS guidance office is open from 7:30am-2:30pm, Monday-Friday. We have an open door policy and encourage students and families to visit the guidance office.
Throughout the year Ms. Merrill will conduct classroom lessons to help create an academic plan for high school and beyond. Information will be posted on this webpage, on the official JHS Facebook page, and the JHS Twitter account. We HIGHLY encourage families to follow one of these social media resources for important announcements.
Meet the JHS Guidance Office Staff
Ms. Debbie Merrill

Ms. Merrill went to high school in Tennessee. She played Division 1 basketball at the University of Cincinnati and then finished her career at The Ohio State University. She earned a Bachelor’s Degree in Criminology from The Ohio State University. After graduating from OSU, she was drafted to play in the WNBA. She later chose to go back to school and completed her Master’s Degree in School Counseling. Ms. Merrill also has earned her ED.S in Psychology.
In addition to being the only School Counselor at JHS, Ms. Merrill is the Junior Class advisor, the Middle School AD, and the Junior Varisty Girls Basketball Coach. These positions have allowed Ms. Merrill to meet more students and create more relationships with students.
Ms. Merrill will meet with students one on one when necessary and will conduct many classroom lessons throughout the year. She also will host many evening meetings to help accommodate working families.
Mrs. Janet Kelly

Mrs. Kelly has been the JHS guidance office secretary for 29 years. Prior to this position Mrs. Kelly worked for Ashland Chemical. Mrs. Kelly is a Johnstown Alum and has lived in Johnstown her whole life. Mrs. Kelly is the first person you will meet when entering into the guidance office. She processes transcripts, manages progressbook (grading portal for students and parents to access grades), organizes the awards ceremonies, schedules parent/teacher conferences, communicates information on the website about scholarships, and completes many other duties.
