The Johnstown-Monroe Local School District encompasses approximately 54 square miles. The School District's boundaries include all of the City of Johnstown, and portions of the City of New Albany, as well as all of Monroe Township, and portions of Liberty and Jersey townships within Licking County and Harlem Township in neighboring Delaware County.

Johnstown-Monroe School District is largely located in the northwest corner of Licking County and extends into Delaware County. The School District is situated minutes from the border of Franklin County and approximately 15 miles from the City of Columbus' corporation limit.

The School District is an independent political subdivision of the State; the school district is not a part of, nor under the control of, the County, the City, or any other political subdivision.

House Bill 276
 Semi-Annual Report to the President of the Johnstown-Monroe Board of Education
 The mandates of House Bill 276, effective March 30, 2007, require that the Superintendent must provide a semi-annual written report the President of the Board of Education on all verified incidents of "harassment, intimidation, or bullying" that have taken place during the time period and must post a summary of that report on the district's website." Harassment, intimidation, or bullying" is defined in the statute and in Board Policy JFCF as an intentional written, verbal, or physical act that a student has exhibited toward another particular student more than once. The behavior both (1) causes mental or physical harm to the other student; and (2) is sufficiently severe, persistent or pervasive that it creates an intimidating, threatening or abusive educational environment for the other student.
